Exhaust hot section with water entry fitting (Catalina Style)
This hot section is assembled from 1 – 1/4” NPT black iron piping. It’s modeled after the general design of the hot section used in the Catalina 27 fleet, however if you have sufficient space behind the engine to accommodate the dimensions given below it will work on any sailboat. This hot section can be a cost effective and convenient alternative to other more complex exhaust systems. If necessary, the entire section can be rotated a few degrees within the flange to accommodate special space problems. It is intended to be used without a water lift muffler as long s you can provide a continuous down-hill hose connection to the exhaust outlet on your boat.
This one step solution will save you hours of hassle, also by eliminating the need for a water lift muffler, it will insure very low exhaust backpressure to the engine, as well as providing a wonderful safety dividend since engine cooling water will flow harmlessly out of the boat in case you inadvertently end up over-cranking your engine.
After mounting on the back of the manifold, the maximum height to the top of the horizontal section above the top of the manifold is 10.5”, the distance from the top of the assembly to the bottom of the downward leg is 6.0”, and the distance from the back of the manifold to the very back end of the 1-5/8” O.D. hose barb is 17.5”. Water entry fitting will fit 1/2″” I.D. cooling hose.
Each hot section is wrapped with high temperature insulating tape and includes a new exhaust flange with mounting bolts, gasket, and a welded inline water fitting.
