Static Timing light (DC circuit tester)
These are 12 volt DC continuity checking lights that we use to set the ignition timing of the engine statically – the precise point where the points open to deliver a secondary charge to the plugs. With the distributor properly installed and the number one piston at TDC, the static timing light is connected between the primary terminals of the coil. Then as the distributor is rotated slightly left and right from TDC, the static timing light will illuminate whenever the points are closed and extinguish the instant the points begin to open.
