Alternator – 65 amp (new). Replaces Motorola 35 amp alternator
This alternator rated at 65 amps. It is internally regulated. It is ignition protected in accordance with SAE J1171
The alternator’s 2″ mounting foot is designed to fit in the standard late model lifting eye/alternator mounting bracket. Please refer to product number OVEL_02_221 for a photo of the standard late model mounting bracket.
The pulley on the 65 amp alternator is slightly larger than the pulley on the original Motorola 35 amp alternator. For this reason, it requires a 26″ belt as opposed to the factory 25″ used on the Motorola (see our product number IGLM_09_34.1).
Also, since the distance between the standard alternator pulley and the distributor cap is already very close, you may have to loosen the two head nuts and move the lifting eye bracket a bit to keep the pulley from touching the distributor cap / spark plug wire. There’s usually more than enough “wiggle room” between the holes in the bracket and the head studs to reposition the alternator as necessary. Re-torque the head nuts to between 30 and 35 foot-pounds. You may also take an adjustable wrench and bend the ears on the lifting eye bracket very slightly to gain the necessary clearance. NOTE: Depending on your final fit, customers may want to consider our improved late model alternator support arm, since it’s slightly longer than the factory support arm. This extra length allows for more travel when lifting and tightening your alternator. This is helpful when installing our aftermarket alternator which has different dimensions then the factory Motorola alternator, causing the factory support arm to run out of tightening room, especially as the belt stretches.
NOTE: Except for warranty exchange, this electrical item is not returnable.
