The engine has spent its entire working career in cold fresh water. Internal corrosion was minimal, as was maintenance. Overhaul was finally deemed necessary after the old water pump filled the crankcase with lake water and the rear output seal and bearing rusted.
Completely overhauled winter 2004: castings bead-blasted and baked, new rings, bearings, valves, modern valve seats, Moyer oil change kit, “Kaminsky modification”, etc. Mechanical distributor, carburetor, and fuel pump rebuilt. Modified to accept modern adjustable rubber motor mounts.
