“Just a short note from Holland about my A4 which is mounted in a 20-foot flat bottomed steel boat.
When building this boat, I walked in to this A4, and new these engines were reliable. This one had a broken carb, because someone tipped over the engine so the engine fell on it. I mounted a downstream carburator from a car with about the same displacement on a selfmade intake manifold.
I sailed it this way for 3 years without any problem. By then I found MMI on Internet and bought an original carb and recently mounted it with the PCV kit from Indigo. It still runs great, but now without fumes around the engine. I did not rebuild the engine and suppose it’s still original. I just replaced all the ignition parts and maintain it well. I am a mechanic for 26 years and love to do it. My boat’s name is “Four-Fun” meaning me, my wife and our 2 sons (4) having fun with an A “four”.
The flexible stainless hose you see is a high pressure steam hose used in the food industry. I just walked in to it, and it came with a huge flange on both sides. i just cut those off and welded it onto the original A4 flange. It looks very nice. Also, the rest off the exhaust is just the regular rubber hose you can buy anywhere. I don’t know where to buy the steam hose, but I don’t think this will be very hard to find. It has a rubber inner hose also.”
