I removed the original late model 1972 Atomic 4, due to a spun bearing & cracked block. I decided to rebuild a circa 1957 early model Atomic 4 that I acquired in a classified ad ($20) This is the only engine I have ever rebuilt and I could not have done it without the MMI Service/Overhaul Manual
The major castings were cooked and bead-blasted, cylinders honed, head machined, bearings and seals replaced, stud bushings installed, early model water jacket side plate and valve cover were used. Gear driven water pump replaced with Oberdorfer impeller pump. Prestolite distributer with new rotor, points & condensor were used. I drilled and tapped a new hole for the temperature sending unit just below the cast iron crossover tube.
I upgraded to the Indigo FWC kit, Racor fuel/H2O separator & inline polishing gas filter, API Mando 55 amp alternator, new starter solenoid for the late model Delco-Remy starter motor, custom spark plug wires, new valves, rings, Indigo oil filtration, MMI anti-siphon valve, overhauled late model carburetor and mechanical fuel pump, as well as raw water filter/strainer. She received a dark old “Ford Blue” paint job. She has had 2 hours run-time testing in the shop.
